A Visionary Beginning
Cambrian Hall’s story begins with the visionary legacy of the late Maharaja Judha Shumsher J.B. Rana, Nepal’s former Prime Minister. After stepping down in 1948, he accepted an invitation from India’s iconic leaders, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, to settle in Dehradun. The school's campus—nestled at 13 Young Road in Dehradun Cantt—was originally part of his family estate. Inspired by a passion for education, his son, Col. Shashi Shumshere J.B. Rana, generously donated the estate to bring his dream of establishing Cambrian Hall to life.
Years of Dedication
Col. Shashi dedicated 34 years to nurturing the school with unwavering commitment, love, and care. His inspiring leadership transformed the institution into a secular and egalitarian environment where children from all backgrounds were warmly welcomed. Under his visionary guidance, the school established enduring principles of academic excellence, character development, and inclusive education that continue to guide us today. After Col. Shashi, Maharani Rani Chandra—lovingly known as Rani Sahiba—nurtured the school for 30 years. As his wife and a steadfast pillar of strength, she consistently rose to every challenge, with her humble yet influential presence significantly shaping his decisions and contributing to his remarkable success.

Continued Legacy
Cambrian Hall is now led by a dedicated governing body, with Mr. Krishna J.B. Rana—his son and successor—serving as the President of the Board of Governors and ensuring the smooth operation of the school. Under his leadership, the school steadfastly upholds its core values while adapting to modern educational demands. Over time, it has evolved to address contemporary challenges, seamlessly blending its rich heritage with innovative practices.
